For the program to be most effective, your child will need to receive a minimum of two sessions per week.
Each tutoring session lasts 50 minutes.
Your child will be assessed to determine their needs. Once lessons begin, the tutor will analyze the child's errors and determine which skills need to be reviewed in the next lesson. They will also decide which skill will be taught next.
Periodically, a progress report will be provided with skills learned and reviewed.
To receive tutoring, your child is not required to have a diagnosis. We do ask that any information or testing that you have, be provided to give the tutor a more comprehensive view of your child's needs.
Homework is not given. However, if you would like review work, feel free to speak with your child's tutor.
We will be offering math drop-in sessions soon!
The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) website has additional information for both teachers and families.
According to The International Dyslexia Association, dyslexia is defined as:
“Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede growth of vocabulary and background knowledge.”
